UK Work Visas & Sponsor Licence Applications

UK immigration laws offer a wide range of work visa options for those considering coming to the UK. There are many UK work visa categories, ranging from temporary to long-term, from sponsorship-based to investment- and business-based. Not all UK work visas lead to Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR). The UK has been, and continues to be, one of the favourite destinations for skilled work visas among foreign nationals worldwide.

Most long-term work visas lead to Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) in the UK after 3 or 5 years of residence. Various UK work visas include temporary, short-term, and long-term work visas, investor and business development visas, Global Talent visas, and others. Temporary work visas are granted for a limited period and do not lead to settlement in the UK. However, it is possible to switch from the Temporary Worker visa category to the long-term work visa category in the UK, allowing the applicant to qualify for Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) under the long-term work visa category.

Premium Solicitors is a team of specialist work visa solicitors providing expert legal advice and representation for individuals, professionals, entrepreneurs, and employers seeking to obtain permission to work in the UK. Our experienced immigration solicitors assist clients across the UK and worldwide with all types of UK work visa applications, extensions, switching applications, settlement applications, sponsor licence matters, and challenging work visa refusals through Administrative Review, Pre-Action Protocol (PAP), and Judicial Review (JR).

Work Visas Leading To Indefinite Leave To Remain (ILR)

The following are the various UK work visa categories for which our expert team of work visa solicitors can provide specialist immigration advice and legal representations:

Temporary Work Visas Which Do Not Lead To Indefinite Leave To Remain (ILR)

The work visa categories listed below are temporary UK work visas and do not lead to Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR). Although Temporary Work visas do not lead to ILR, it may be possible to switch within the UK from a Temporary Work visa to another work visa category that leads to Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR).

The Skilled Worker Visa is the main UK work visa route for skilled professionals who have received a job offer from a licensed UK sponsor. {loadmoduleid 245}

The Skilled Worker route is for European Economic Area (EEA) nationals and non-EEA nationals who are sponsored by a Home Office-licensed sponsor to undertake a specific skilled job. Formerly known as the Tier 2 (General) Visa, the Skilled Worker Visa is designed for individuals who have been offered a skilled job by a UK employer. This visa category aims to address skill shortages in the UK labour market by enabling employers to hire qualified professionals from overseas. The Skilled Worker Visa presents a compelling opportunity for skilled professionals worldwide to pursue their career aspirations in the United Kingdom. By understanding the eligibility criteria, application process, and associated rights and benefits, prospective applicants can navigate the visa journey with confidence. Whether you're an employer seeking to recruit international talent or an individual aspiring to work in the UK, the Skilled Worker Visa opens doors to a world of possibilities, fostering innovation, diversity, and economic growth in the UK workforce.

The Immigration Rules on the skilled worker visa route changed on 4 April 2024 and then on 22 July 2025 to increase the minimum salary thresholds for the Skilled Worker route, with transitional arrangements put in place for workers already on the route.

At Premium Solicitors, our experienced Skilled Worker Visa Solicitors provide expert legal advice and representation for individuals and businesses navigating the UK Skilled Worker Visa route. Sponsor Licence to Employ Migrant Foreign Workers

As a UK business, you can apply to the Home Office, UKVI, for a sponsor licence to sponsor and employ skilled migrant workers in your UK business.  The sponsor licence is issued by UKVI to a UK employer/business and grants the UK employer permission to sponsor workers in its business. Only organisations, not individuals, can be Home Office-approved licensed 'sponsors'. The Home Office UKVI maintains an online register of licensed sponsors, and all UK businesses holding a sponsor licence appear on it. Our immigration solicitors can provide a Fast Track Service for your sponsor licence application, enabling a decision within 10 working days.

EU Settlement Scheme (EUSS) Applications

The EU Settlement Scheme was introduced to protect the rights of eligible EU, EEA and Swiss citizens and their family members living in the UK after Brexit. Although the main application deadline has passed, many individuals remain eligible to apply under specific circumstances, including joining family members and applicants with reasonable grounds for a late application.

You can apply for an EUSS family permit, pre-settled status or settled status under the EU Settlement Scheme (EUSS) if you are from the EU, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland or Liechtenstein. You might also be able to apply under the EU Settlement Scheme (EUSS) if you are a family member of an eligible person from Northern Ireland. An application under the EU Settlement Scheme (EUSS) is made in accordance with requirements as set out in Appendix EU of the Immigration Rules.

The deadline for most people to apply to the EU Settlement Scheme was 30 June 2021. However, you can still apply under the EU Settlement Scheme (EUSS) if you or a family member were living in the UK by 31 December 2020. You must also either:

  • meet one of the criteria for a later deadline to apply
  • have ‘reasonable grounds’ for not applying by 30 June 2021

At Premium Solicitors, our specialist immigration solicitors provide expert legal advice and representation to individuals and families applying under the EU Settlement Scheme (EUSS). Whether you are applying for settled status, pre-settled status, upgrading your status, making a late application, or seeking to join a family member in the UK, our experienced team can guide you through every stage of the process.

Our specialist team of immigration solicitors can provide fast, friendly and reliable fixed fee immigration services for the following applications under the EU Settlement Scheme (EUSS):

Long Residence Applications

The Long Residence route allows certain individuals who have accumulated a continuous period of lawful residence in the UK to apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR). The route is designed for migrants who have spent a significant period in the UK under various immigration categories and have established strong ties to the country.

Long residence applications include ILR applications based on 10 years of residence, further leave to remain applications based on 10 years of residence, and applications based on 20 years of residence. The immigration rules on long residence recognise the importance of ties a person may form with the UK over a lengthy period of residence in the UK.

If you have lived in the UK lawfully for a significant period, you may be eligible to apply for settlement under the Long Residence route. At Premium Solicitors, our specialist immigration solicitors have extensive experience in preparing and submitting successful long residence applications, helping clients secure Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) in the UK.

We provide expert legal advice on all aspects of the Long Residence route, including eligibility assessments, absences from the UK, lawful residence requirements, complex immigration histories, and representation where there are potential issues affecting an application.

Our team offers fixed-fee services, flexible payment options, and nationwide representation. We are available 7 days a week to assist clients throughout the UK and overseas.

As specialist immigration solicitors, we can provide fast, friendly and reliable fixed-fee legal services for the following applications based on long residence in the UK:

Private Life and Discretionary Leave Applications

At Premium Solicitors, our experienced immigration solicitors provide expert legal advice and representation for individuals seeking leave to remain in the UK on the basis of their private life or exceptional circumstances. If you have established strong ties to the UK, have lived here for many years, or face significant difficulties if required to leave the country, you may be eligible to apply for leave to remain under the Private Life route or for Discretionary Leave to Remain.

We understand that every case is unique. Our specialist immigration lawyers assess your circumstances carefully and prepare robust applications supported by detailed legal representations and documentary evidence.

Private Life Applications

A private life application allows certain individuals already living in the UK to apply for permission to remain based on the private life they have established in the country. The route is primarily intended for people who have spent significant periods living in the UK or who would face very significant obstacles to integration if required to leave the UK.

Private life applications are based on Article 8 of the European Convention on Human Rights, which protects an individual's right to respect for private and family life.

You can apply for leave to remain or Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) on the basis of the private life you have established in the UK. The Private Life route is for a person seeking permission to stay in the UK on the basis that they have developed a Private Life in the UK. An application for leave to remain or Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) on the basis of private life established in the UK is made in accordance with the requirements as set out in Appendix Private Life of the Immigration Rules. The Private Life route is a route to settlement.

A child born in the UK who has lived in the UK for 7 years continuously can apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) instead of limited leave to remain.

Alternative routes may be available to those considering the Private Life route. For example, a person may be able to qualify for immediate Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) on the basis of 10 years Long Residence in the UK.

At Premium Solicitors, our specialist immigration solicitors provide expert legal advice and representation for individuals seeking permission to stay in the UK on the basis of their private life. If you have established strong ties to the UK through long residence, education, employment, community involvement, or personal relationships, you may be eligible to apply for leave to remain under Appendix Private Life of the Immigration Rules.

Private life applications are often complex and require detailed evidence to demonstrate that you meet the specific eligibility requirements. Our experienced team can assess your circumstances, prepare a strong application, and guide you through every stage of the process.

As specialist immigration lawyers in London, we can provide fast, friendly and reliable fixed fee legal services for the following applications on the basis of a person's private life as envisaged under Appendix Private Life of the Immigration Rules:

Discretionary Leave to Remain (DLR) Applications

If you do not qualify for leave to remain under the Immigration Rules but have compelling, compassionate, or exceptional circumstances, you may be eligible for Discretionary Leave to Remain (DLR) in the UK. At Premium Solicitors, our experienced immigration solicitors provide expert legal advice and representation for individuals seeking Discretionary Leave to Remain based on humanitarian, medical, human rights, or other exceptional grounds.

Discretionary Leave (DL) is a form of leave to remain that is granted outside the Immigration Rules, in limited and exceptional circumstances, in accordance with Home Office policy on the grant of Discretionary Leave (DL). The Home Office guidance confirms that Discretionary Leave is intended for limited and exceptional cases and is generally considered where removal from the UK would result in unjustifiably harsh consequences. The Secretary of State has the power to grant leave on a discretionary basis, outside the Rules, under her residual discretion under the Immigration Act 1971.

Discretionary Leave is intended to address exceptional and compassionate situations and is granted on a case-by-case basis. Discretionary Leave (DL) applies in both asylum and non-asylum cases, including those applying from within the UK.

At Premium Solicitors, our specialist immigration solicitors provide expert legal advice and representation for individuals seeking Discretionary Leave to Remain (DLR) in the UK. We understand that every case is unique. Our specialist immigration lawyers carefully assess your circumstances, prepare strong legal representations, and submit comprehensive applications to maximise your prospects of success.

As specialist immigration solicitors and lawyers in London, we can provide fast, friendly and reliable fixed fee legal services for the following applications under the Discretionary Leave to Remain (DLR) category:

Challenging the Refusal of a UK Visit Visa

You can challenge the refusal of a UK visit visa by way of a Pre-Action Protocol (PAP) letter and Judicial Review (JR) if you believe that your visit visa application has been refused by the Entry Clearance Officer (ECO) unlawfully. You can no longer challenge the refusal of a UK visit visa by way of an Immigration Appeal, and the only way to challenge the refusal of a UK visit visa is by way of the Pre-Action Protocol (PAP) and Judicial Review (JR). It is very common for the Entry Clearance Officer (ECO) to refuse a visit visa entry clearance application without fully considering all relevant facts, information, and evidence. Such failure to consider all relevant factors or evidence can form a basis for challenging the refusal of a UK visit visa.

Our specialist team of visit visa solicitors can provide expert immigration advice and legal representation for challenging the refusal of your UK visit visa application. We can act on a No Win, No Fee basis in your application to the Upper Tribunal for Judicial Review against the refusal of your UK visit visa application.

Our specialist visit visa solicitors and lawyers can assess your visit visa refusal decision free of charge to advise you on whether you have any valid grounds to challenge the refusal of your UK visit visa application. You can email the refusal letter of your visit visa application to info@premiumsolicitors.co.uk if you want a free assessment of the reasons for refusal of your UK visit visa application.

If our visit visa solicitors and lawyers find valid grounds to challenge the refusal of your UK visit visa, we will quote a fixed fee to prepare and file a Pre-Action Protocol (PAP) against the refusal. Read More

Visa Chase Up Service

A Visa Chase Up Service involves making formal enquiries and representations to the Home Office or UKVI regarding an outstanding visa or immigration application that has exceeded the published processing times or is experiencing unreasonable delays.

Has your UK visa application been delayed beyond the standard processing time? Are you struggling to obtain an update from UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI)? At Premium Solicitors, our specialist Visa Chase Up Service is designed to help applicants obtain updates, escalate delays, and pursue prompt decisions on pending visa and immigration applications.

We understand how stressful it can be when your travel plans, employment, studies, or family life are affected by prolonged delays. It is not uncommon for the Home Office UKVI to delay a decision on a UK visa and immigration application beyond the published service standards. Where the decision on a UK visa and immigration application has been delayed beyond the published service standards of the UKVI for processing of the application, we can chase up the Home Office UKVI for a decision on your UK visa and immigration application without any further delay.

British Citizenship, Right of Abode and British Passport Applications

British citizenship grants a person full legal status as a citizen of the United Kingdom. Obtaining British citizenship is a significant milestone for individuals who have made the United Kingdom their permanent home. Becoming a British citizen allows you to live in the UK permanently without immigration restrictions, apply for a British passport, vote in elections, and enjoy the full rights and privileges of citizenship. Once granted citizenship, you will no longer be subject to immigration control and can apply for a British passport.

You can either apply for naturalisation as a British Citizen or register as a British Citizen to acquire British Citizenship if you are not a British Citizen by birth. Becoming a British citizen is a significant life event. It allows you to apply for a British citizen passport and participate more fully in the life of your local community. There are different ways to become a British citizen. You can either naturalise as a British Citizen or register as a British Citizen.

If the Home Office UKVI refuses your application for British Citizenship, you can apply for reconsideration of the nationality application.

Whether you are applying through naturalisation, registration, marriage to a British citizen, long residence, or another route, we can guide you through every stage of the process and maximise your chances of success.

Challenging UK Visa and Immigration Refusal Decisions

You can challenge the Home Office UKVI refusal decision if your immigration application has been refused by the Home Office UKVI and you believe the refusal decision to be unlawful. You should have good grounds to challenge the refusal of your UK visa and immigration application so that you can prove the refusal decision of the Home Office UKVI is not in accordance with the relevant facts and laws (including immigration rules and case laws).

Receiving a refusal decision from the Home Office can be distressing and frustrating, especially after investing significant time, effort, and money into your immigration application. However, a refusal does not always mean the end of your immigration journey. In many cases, UKVI immigration decisions, also known as refusal letters, can normally be challenged by way of immigration appeals, Administrative Review, Pre-Action Protocol (PAP), and Judicial Reviews (JRs) against the Home Office.

At Premium Solicitors, our specialist immigration solicitors have extensive experience in challenging unlawful and incorrect immigration refusal decisions. We carefully assess each case, identify legal errors, and advise on the most effective remedy available to maximise your prospects of success. As specialist immigration solicitors, we provide a wide range of legal services to challenge UKVI refusal decisions made by the Home Office. We also provide legal representation to our clients in challenging the UKVI Home Office's delay in reaching a timely decision on an immigration application where the applicant is prejudiced by that delay.

Our specialist immigration lawyers have a proven track record of successfully challenging immigration decisions. As specialist immigration solicitors in London, we can carry out a free assessment of the refusal decision of your UK visa and immigration application to advise you whether or not you have good grounds to challenge the refusal of your UK visa application.
